While we don't have a date for the founding of Mercer, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1880.

While the community is gone, the present day location for Mercer is 680 feet [207 m] above sea level.<4>.

We originally found mention of Mercer in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Mercer was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Mercer post office opened in 1880.

We also found Mercer on a map titled Rand McNally Map of South Carolina (1911).
