At the time of the 2010 Census, Marion had a population of 6,939 people (which is 20.99% of the total population of Marion County). This makes Marion the county's most populous community.

The population of Marion represents 0.15% of the total population of South Carolina (which has 4,625,364 people), making it the state's 50th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 6,939 people, the population of Marion decreased 1.46% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 7,042 people).
