At the time of the 2010 Census, Florence had a population of 37,056 people (or 27.07% of the total population of Florence County). This makes Florence the county's most populous community.

The population of Florence represents 0.8% of the total population of South Carolina (which has 4,625,364 people), making it the state's 10th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 37,056 people, the population of Florence increased 22.51% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 30,248 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Florence was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Florence post office opened in 1853.
