Kent County was founded in 1750 and was created by taking area from Providence County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Kent had a population of 164,292 people. This is a decrease of 1.05% since the last Census (which gave a population of 166,030 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Kent represented 15.77% of the total population of Rhode Island.
