The coastal village of Caplan is located on the east coast of Quebec (on Chaleur Bay, the Gulf of Saint Lawrence).
Time Zone: Caplan lies in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time. The time zone in French: EST- Heure Normale de l'Est (HNE), EDT- Heure Avancée de l'Est (HAE).
Note: If you travel south from Caplan (for example, toward Pointe Verte (NB)), you will leave Eastern Time and cross into the Atlantic Time Zone (AST/ADT).

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.
The earliest source (so far) we've referenced which mentioned Caplan was mentioned on a train schedule titled Canadian National Railroad Time Tables (October 1960).
When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 418 code has been Overlayed with one of the following codes: 367 or 581. New phone numbers in the Caplan area will be assigned with one of these codes: 418, 367 or 581. As a result, placing a call in the Caplan area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number).
