At the time of the 2010 Census, Windber had a population of 4,138 people (or 5.32% of the total population of Somerset County). This makes Windber the county's 2nd most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Windber was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Windber post office opened in 1898.

We also found Windber on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Pennsylvania (1911).
