Welcome to Signal ...

So far, we found very little information about Signal. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Signal to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Signal - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Signal, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Signal , we believe that it would have been located within present day Lane County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Signal, you might consider that their post office opened in 1927. The community was inundated by the Lookout Point Reservoir.

Time Zone: The area where Signal was located is in the Pacific Time Zone (PST/PDT) and observes daylight saving time

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Signal was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

From that list, the Signal post office opened in 1927.

However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. <3>	When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 541 code has been Overlayed with the 458 area code. New phone numbers in the Signal area will be assigned with one of these codes: 541 or 458. As a result, placing a call in the Signal area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number).
