So far, we found very little information about Caviness. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

Caviness would have been located within present day Malheur County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Caviness, you might consider that their post office opened in 1908.

While the community is gone, the present day location for Caviness is 4,490 feet [1,369 m] above sea level.<3> In other words, the altitude of Caviness is about ¾ mile [or ~1¼ km] above sea level.

Time Zone: The area where Caviness was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time

We originally found mention of Caviness in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found (so far) for Caviness was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Caviness post office opened in 1908. The Caviness post office closed in 1910.
