While we don't have a date for the founding of Barnegat, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1891.

While the community is gone, the present day location for Barnegat is 90 feet [27 m] above sea level.<4>.

We originally found mention of Barnegat in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Barnegat was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Barnegat post office opened in 1891.

We also found Barnegat in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
