Welcome to Ajax ...

So far, we found very little information about Ajax. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

Ajax would have been located within present day Gilliam County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Ajax, you might consider that their post office opened in 1888.

Adding Ajax to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source (so far) we've referenced which mentioned Ajax was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<5>

From that list, the Ajax post office opened in 1888. The Ajax post office closed in 1921.

However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. <3>When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code.
