While we don't have a date for the founding of Atoka, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1868.

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Atoka had an population of 3,005 people. This is a decrease of 3.28% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 0.57% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Atoka had a population of 3,107 people (or 21.91% of the total population of Atoka County). This makes Atoka the county's most populous community.

The population of Atoka represents 0.08% of the population of Oklahoma (which has 3,751,351 people), making it the state's 107th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 3,107 people, the population of Atoka increased 3.98% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 2,988 people).

We originally found mention of Atoka in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Atoka was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Atoka post office opened in 1868.

We also found Atoka on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Oklahoma (1911).
