The Commemorative Quarter for Ohio

Welcome to Potter ...

So far, we found very little information about Potter. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Potter to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Potter - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Potter, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Potter , we believe that it would have been located within present day Delaware County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Potter, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1888.

Time Zone: The area where Potter was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

Potter would have been located in the (740) area code.

Communities Also Named Potter ...

While we believe that this Potter is located in Delaware County, we know of another 2 Ohio communities named Potter. Those communities are located in the following counties: Fayette and Wood County.

Beyond Ohio, there are 17 communities that are also named Potter - they are located in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, British Columbia, California, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, New York, Oklahoma, Ontario, Oregon, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Adding Potter to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Potter was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Potter post office opened in 1888.

We also found Potter in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Potter, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Ohio's counties, including Delaware, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
