Welcome to Florida ...

So far, we found very little information about Florida. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Florida to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Florida - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Florida, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Florida , we believe that it would have been located within present day Knox County<2>.

Time Zone: The area where Florida was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

Communities Also Named Florida ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Ohio communities named Florida: This one is located in Knox County and the other is located in Henry County.

Beyond Ohio, there are 13 communities that are also named Florida - they are located in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Mexico (3), New York and Ontario (2).

<1>	We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Florida, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.

<3>	When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 740 code has been Overlayed with the 220 area code. New phone numbers in the Florida area will be assigned with one of these codes: 740 or 220. As a result, placing a call in the Florida area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number).
