The Commemorative Quarter for Ohio

Welcome to Circle ...

So far, we found very little information about Circle. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Circle to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Circle - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Circle, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Circle , we believe that it would have been located within present day Knox County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Circle, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1842.

Time Zone: The area where Circle was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

Communities Also Named Circle ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are 5 communities that are also named Circle - they are located in Alaska, Montana, New Jersey and Texas (2).

For more information, see our Tidbits & Trivia Page for Circle.

Adding Circle to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Circle was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Circle post office opened in 1842.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Circle, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Ohio's counties, including Knox, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
