Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Sparks had an population of 105,215 people. This is an increase of 16.56% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 58.59% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Sparks had a population of 90,264 people (or 21.42% of the total population of Washoe County). This makes Sparks the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Sparks represents 3.34% of the total population of Nevada (which has 2,700,551 people), making it the state's 5th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 90,264 people, the population of Sparks increased 36.05% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 66,346 people).

We originally found mention of Sparks in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Sparks was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Sparks post office opened in 1904.

We also found Sparks mentioned on a train schedule titled Southern Pacific Railroad Time Tables (March 1908).
