Welcome to Cedar ...

So far, we found very little information about Cedar. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Cedar to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Cedar - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Cedar, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Cedar , we believe that it would have been located within present day Elko County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Cedar, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was on a map dated 1883.

Time Zone: The area where Cedar was located is in the Pacific Time Zone (PST/PDT) and observes daylight saving time

If Cedar still existed, it would have been in the (775) area code.

Communities Also Named Cedar ...

While we believe that this Cedar is located in Elko County, we know of another 2 Nevada communities named Cedar. Those communities are located in the following counties: Eureka and Washoe County.

Beyond Nevada, there are 35 communities that are also named Cedar - they are located in Arizona, British Columbia, California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa (2), Kansas (5), Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan (4), Minnesota, Montana, North Carolina, Oklahoma (2), South Dakota, Texas (2), Utah, West Virginia (2) and Wisconsin (2).

Adding Cedar to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Cedar was on a map titled George#&160;F. Cram Map of Nevada (1883).

We also found Cedar in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Cedar, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Nevada's counties, including Elko, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
