Welcome to Steins ...So far, we found very little information about Steins. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1> We've added Steins to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. If you can help us with Steins, please Contact Us. Steins would have been located within present day Hidalgo County<2>. The pronunciation of Steins: STEENS<3> While we don't have a date for the founding of Steins, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was in a book dated 1895. While the community is gone, the present day location for Steins is 4,340 feet [1,323 m] above sea level.<4> In other words, the altitude of Steins is about ¾ mile [or ~1¼ km] above sea level. Time Zone: The area where Steins was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time Note: If you leave Steins and travel west, you will soon leave Mountain Time and cross into the Mountain Standard Time Zone (MST). In addition, you will be moving from an area that observes daylight saving time to one that does not. If Steins still existed, it would have been in the (575) area code. The community of Steins was previously named Stein's Pass. Going back to its beginning, Steins was originally named Doubtful Canyon.
