The Commemorative Quarter for New Mexico

Welcome to Romero ...

So far, we found very little information about Romero. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Romero to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Romero - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Romero, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Romero , we believe that it would have been located within present day Santa Fe County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Romero, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1895.

Time Zone: The area where Romero was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time

The location where Romero once stood is in the (505) area code.

Communities Also Named Romero ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two New Mexico communities named Romero: This one is located in Santa Fe County and the other is located in San Miguel County.

Beyond New Mexico, there are 3 communities that are also named Romero - they are located in Louisiana and Texas.

For more information, see our Tidbits & Trivia Page for Romero.

Adding Romero to Our Gazetteer ...

We originally found mention of Romero in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Romero was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Romero post office opened in 1895.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Romero, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of New Mexico's counties, including Santa Fe, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
