Welcome to Pecos ...The village of Pecos is located in San Miguel County<1>. The location of Pecos has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<2> While we don't have a date for the founding of Pecos, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was in a book dated 1895. When the people of Pecos refer to themselves (known as a demonym), they frequently use Pecosite<3> From the Census Estimates for 2019, Pecos has a population of 1,319 people<4> (see below for details). Pecos is 6,970 feet [2,124 m] above sea level.<5> In other words, the elevation of Pecos is about 1¼ mile [or ~2¼ km] above sea level. Time Zone: Pecos lies in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time Population Details ...Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Pecos had an population of 1,319 people. This is a decrease of 5.24% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 8.47% since the 2000 Census). At the time of the 2010 Census, Pecos had a population of 1,392 people. This makes Pecos the county's 2nd most populous community. The population of Pecos represents 0.07% of the population of New Mexico (which has 2,059,179 people), making it the state's 56th most populous community.
