Welcome to Marion ...

So far, we found very little information about Marion. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Marion to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Marion - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Marion, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Marion , we believe that it would have been located within present day Sierra County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Marion, you might consider that their post office opened in 1907.

When the people of Marion referred to themselves (known as a demonym), they are believed to have used Marionite<3>

Time Zone: The area where Marion was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time

Adding Marion to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Marion was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

From that list, the Marion post office opened in 1907.
