So far, we found very little information about Knowles. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

Knowles would have been located within present day Lea County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Knowles, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1903.

While the community is gone, the present day location for Knowles is 3,710 feet [1,131 m] above sea level.<3> In other words, the elevation of Knowles is about ¾ mile [or ~1¼ km] above sea level.

Time Zone: The area where Knowles was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time

Note: If you travel east from Knowles (for example, toward Seagraves (TX)), you will leave Mountain Time and cross into the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT).

We originally found mention of Knowles in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Knowles was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

X2X - From that list, the Knowles post office opened in 1903.
