Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Winston-Salem had an population of 247,775 people. This is an increase of 7.91% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 33.37% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Winston-Salem had a population of 229,617 people (or 65.48% of the total population of Forsyth County). This makes Winston-Salem the county's most populous community.

The population of Winston-Salem represents 2.41% of the population of North Carolina (which has 9,535,483 people), making it the state's 4th most populous community.
