At the time of the 2010 Census, Forest City had a population of 7,476 people (or 11.02% of the total population of Rutherford County). This makes Forest City the county's most populous community.

The population of Forest City represents 0.08% of the total population of North Carolina (which has 9,535,483 people), making it the state's 103rd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 7,476 people, the population of Forest City has remained roughly the same as the 2000 Census (with a count of 7,549 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Forest City was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Forest City post office opened in 1882.
