At the time of the 2010 Census, Fletcher had a population of 7,187 people (which is 6.72% of the total population of Henderson County). This makes Fletcher the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Fletcher represents 0.08% of the total population of North Carolina (which has 9,535,483 people), making it the state's 105th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 7,187 people, the population of Fletcher increased 71.73% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 4,185 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Fletcher was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Fletcher post office opened in 1886.
