Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Charlotte had an population of 887,928 people. This is an increase of 21.4% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 64.18% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Charlotte had a population of 731,424 people (or 79.22% of the total population of Mecklenburg County). This makes Charlotte the county's most populous community.

The population of Charlotte represents 7.67% of the population of North Carolina (which has 9,535,483 people), making it the state's most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 731,424 people, the population of Charlotte increased 35.24% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 540,828 people).

We originally found mention of Charlotte in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Charlotte was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Charlotte post office opened in 1794.

We also found Charlotte in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (1803).
