At the time of the 2010 Census, Southaven had a population of 48,982 people (which is 30.28% of the total population of DeSoto County). This makes Southaven the county's most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 48,982 people, the population of Southaven increased 69.04% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 28,977 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Southaven was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Southaven post office opened in 1962.
