Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Fayette had an population of 1,436 people. This is a decrease of 11.03% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 35.95% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Fayette had a population of 1,614 people (which is 20.89% of the total population of Jefferson County). This makes Fayette the county's most populous community.

The population of Fayette represents 0.05% of the total population of Mississippi (which has 2,967,297 people), making it the state's 127th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,614 people, the population of Fayette decreased 28.01% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 2,242 people).
