Welcome to Watkins ...

So far, we found very little information about Watkins. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Watkins to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Watkins - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Watkins, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Watkins , we believe that it would have been located within present day Dade County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Watkins, you might consider that their post office opened in 1881.

Time Zone: The area where Watkins was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

If Watkins still existed, it would have been in the (417) area code.

Communities Also Named Watkins ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Missouri communities named Watkins: This one is located in Dade County and the other is located in Miller County.

Beyond Missouri, there are 26 communities that are also named Watkins - they are located in Alabama, Arkansas (2), Colorado (2), Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana (2), North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee (2), Texas (3), Virginia and West Virginia.

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Watkins was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Watkins post office opened in 1881.
