Welcome to Red Point ...

So far, we found very little information about Red Point. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Red Point to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Red Point - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Red Point, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Red Point , we believe that it would have been located within present day Dent County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Red Point, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1877.

A typical abbreviation for Red Point: Red Pt.

Time Zone: The area where Red Point was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

If Red Point still existed, it would have been in the (573) area code.

Communities Also Named Red Point ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Missouri communities named Red Point: This one is located in Dent County and the other is located in Iron County.

Beyond Missouri, there are 9 communities that are also named Red Point - they are located in California, Maryland, Nevada, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, South Carolina and Utah.

Adding Red Point to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Red Point was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Red Point post office opened in 1877.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Red Point, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Missouri's counties, including Dent, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
