At the time of the 2010 Census, Kirkwood had a population of 27,540 people. This makes Kirkwood the county's 5th most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Kirkwood was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Kirkwood post office opened in 1854.
