Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Independence had an population of 116,925 people (or an increase of 3.21% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Independence had a population of 116,830 people (or 17.33% of the total population of Jackson County). This makes Independence the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Independence represents 1.95% of the population of Missouri (which has 5,988,927 people), making it the state's 4th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 116,830 people, the population of Independence increased 3.13% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 113,288 people).
