Welcome to Floyd ...

So far, we found very little information about Floyd. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Floyd to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Floyd - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Floyd, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Floyd , we believe that it would have been located within present day Saint Clair County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Floyd, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1855.

Time Zone: The area where Floyd was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

Communities Also Named Floyd ...

While we believe that this Floyd is located in Saint Clair County, we know of another 2 Michigan communities named Floyd. Those communities are located in the following counties: Isabella and Midland County.

Beyond Michigan, there are 23 communities that are also named Floyd - they are located in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi (2), Missouri (2), New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas (2) and Virginia.

Adding Floyd to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Floyd was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Floyd post office opened in 1855.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Floyd, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Michigan's counties, including Saint Clair, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
