Sanilac County was founded ?. Sanilac was created by taking area from Oakland, Saint Clair and Lapeer Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Sanilac had a population of 41,220 people. This is a decrease of 4.39% since the last Census (which gave a population of 43,114 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Sanilac represented 0.44% of the total population of Michigan.
