Clinton County was founded March 2, 1831. Clinton was created by taking area from Shiawassee and Kent Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Clinton had a population of 79,595 people. This is an increase of 5.56% since the last Census (which gave a population of 75,403 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Clinton represented 0.76% of the total population of Michigan.
