Waldo County was founded in 1827. Waldo was created by taking area from Hancock, Kennebec and Lincoln Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Waldo had a population of 39,715 people. This is an increase of 2.31% since the last Census (which gave a population of 38,818 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Waldo represented 2.92% of the total population of Maine.
