Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, New Iberia had an population of 28,399 people. This is a decrease of 7.24% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 12.95% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, New Iberia had a population of 30,617 people (which is 41.8% of the total population of Iberia Parish). This makes New Iberia the parish's most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for New Iberia was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the New Iberia post office opened in 1814.
