At the time of the 2010 Census, Montpelier had a population of 266 people. This makes Montpelier the parish's 2nd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 266 people, the population of Montpelier increased 24.3% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 214 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Montpelier was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Montpelier post office opened in 1888.

We also found Montpelier on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Louisiana (1911).
