Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Monroe had an population of 47,362 people. This is a decrease of 2.98% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 10.82% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Monroe had a population of 48,815 people (which is 31.7% of the total population of Ouachita Parish). This makes Monroe the parish's most populous community.

The population of Monroe represents 1.08% of the population of Louisiana (which has 4,533,372 people), making it the state's 8th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 48,815 people, the population of Monroe decreased 8.08% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 53,107 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Monroe was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Monroe post office opened in 1822.

We also found Monroe in the book titled Table of U.S. Post Offices in the United States (Jan. 1851).
