Perry County was founded in 1820. Perry was created by taking area from Floyd and Clay Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Perry had a population of 25,758 people. This is a decrease of 10.15% since the last Census (which gave a population of 28,669 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Perry represented 0.66% of the total population of Kentucky.
