The community of Owenton is the Seat for Owen County.

Owen County was founded in 1819. Owen was created by taking area from Franklin, Gallatin and Scott Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Owen had a population of 10,884 people. This is an increase of 0.4% since the last Census (which gave a population of 10,841 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Owen represented 0.25% of the total population of Kentucky.
