Time Zone: Franklin County lies in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time.

The community of Frankfort is the Seat for Franklin County. Frankfort is also the capital of Kentucky.

Franklin County was founded in 1794. Franklin was created by taking area from Mercer, and Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Franklin had a population of 48,968 people. This is an increase of 2.69% since the last Census (which gave a population of 47,687 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Franklin represented 1.18% of the total population of Kentucky, making it the state's 17th most populous county (out of 120 counties).
