So far, we found very little information about Williamsport. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>
We've added Williamsport to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. While we don't have the exact location of Williamsport , we believe that it would have been located within present day Shawnee County<2>.
While we don't have a date for the founding of Williamsport, you might consider that their post office opened in 1858.
When the people of Williamsport referred to themselves (known as a demonym), they are believed to have used Williamsporter<3>
Time Zone: The area where Williamsport was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time
Williamsport would have been located in the (785) area code.
Communities Also Named Williamsport ...
Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Kansas communities named Williamsport: This one is located in Shawnee County and the other is located in Pratt County.
Beyond Kansas, there are 17 communities that are also named Williamsport - they are located in Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Newfoundland and Labrador, North Dakota, Ohio (4), Ontario, Pennsylvania (2), Tennessee and West Virginia.

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.
The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Williamsport was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>
From that list, the Williamsport post office opened in 1858.
