Welcome to Wakeman ...

So far, we found very little information about Wakeman. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Wakeman to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. While we don't have the exact location of Wakeman , we believe that it would have been located within present day Norton County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Wakeman, you might consider that their post office opened in 1879.

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Kansas communities named Wakeman: This one is located in Norton County and the other is located in McPherson County.

Adding Wakeman to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Wakeman was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Wakeman post office opened in 1879.
