Welcome to Sheldon ...

So far, we found very little information about Sheldon. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Sheldon to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Sheldon - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Sheldon, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Sheldon , we believe that it would have been located within present day Harvey County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Sheldon, you might consider that their post office opened in 1871.

Time Zone: The area where Sheldon was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

Communities Also Named Sheldon ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Kansas communities named Sheldon: This one is located in Harvey County and the other is located in Sedgwick County.

Beyond Kansas, there are 27 communities that are also named Sheldon - they are located in Arizona, California, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan (2), Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New York, North Dakota, Ohio (4), Ontario (4), Pennsylvania (2), South Carolina, Texas, Vermont and Wisconsin.

Adding Sheldon to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Sheldon was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Sheldon post office opened in 1871.
