The Commemorative Quarter for Kansas

Welcome to Eagle ...

So far, we found very little information about Eagle. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Eagle to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Eagle - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Eagle, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Eagle , we believe that it would have been located within present day Barber County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Eagle, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1890.

If Eagle still existed, it would have been in the (620) area code.

Communities Also Named Eagle ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Kansas communities named Eagle: This one is located in Barber County and the other is located in Cherokee County.

Beyond Kansas, there are 27 communities that are also named Eagle - they are located in Alabama (2), Alaska, Colorado, Idaho (2), Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska (2), New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Ontario, Pennsylvania (2), Quebec, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Adding Eagle to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Eagle was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Eagle post office opened in 1890.

We also found Eagle on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Kansas (1911).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Eagle, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Kansas' counties, including Barber, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
