Welcome to Coyote ...

So far, we found very little information about Coyote. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Coyote to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Coyote - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Coyote, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Coyote , we believe that it would have been located within present day Ellis County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Coyote, you might consider that their post office opened in 1868.

If Coyote still existed, it would have been in the (785) area code.

While we believe that this Coyote is located in Ellis County, we know of another 3 Kansas communities named Coyote. Those communities are located in the following counties: Gove, Phillips and Trego County.

Beyond Kansas, there are 9 communities that are also named Coyote - they are located in California, Nevada, New Mexico (3) and Oregon.

Adding Coyote to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Coyote was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Coyote post office opened in 1868.
