Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Plainfield had an population of 35,239 people. This is an increase of 27.53% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 91.56% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Plainfield had a population of 27,631 people (which is 19% of the total population of Hendricks County). This makes Plainfield the county's most populous community.

The population of Plainfield represents 0.43% of the population of Indiana (which has 6,483,802 people), making it the state's 35th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 27,631 people, the population of Plainfield increased 50.2% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 18,396 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Plainfield was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Plainfield post office opened in 1835.
