At the time of the 2010 Census, Garrett had a population of 6,286 people (or 14.89% of the total population of DeKalb County). This makes Garrett the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Garrett represents 0.1% of the total population of Indiana (which has 6,483,802 people), making it the state's 99th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 6,286 people, the population of Garrett increased 8.32% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 5,803 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Garrett was in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).

We also found Garrett on a map (with an unknown title) dated 1908.
