At the time of the 2010 Census, Wheaton had a population of 52,894 people (or 5.76% of the total population of DuPage County). This makes Wheaton the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Wheaton represents 0.41% of the total population of Illinois (which has 12,830,632 people), making it the state's 26th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 52,894 people, the population of Wheaton decreased 4.55% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 55,416 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Wheaton was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<9>

From that list, the Wheaton post office opened in 1852.

We also found Wheaton on a map (with an unknown title) dated 1870.
