At the time of the 2010 Census, Sycamore had a population of 17,519 people (which is 16.66% of the total population of DeKalb County). This makes Sycamore the county's 2nd most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Sycamore was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<9>

From that list, the Sycamore post office opened in 1840.
